Karen Hungerford of Cotati joined approximately 25 other artists from around
the Bay Area on Saturday July 22nd to show off their art made from junk.
The event was Garbage Reincarnation's 20th Annual "Scrapture Junk
Art Sculpture Show and Competition," held at La Plaza Park, in Cotati.
Hungerford won 1st Place in the Scrap Craft Category for her entry, "Woven
Rugs," rugs
made entirely from scrap pieces of fabric and old clothing. Hungerford
won a cash prize that was donated by event co-sponsor West Coast Metals.
Celebrity Judges Wade Belew, Mary Munat, and Jean Sannella were on hand
to present the awards. In addition to fine artwork by artists of all ages
and skill levels, attendees also enjoyed live music by local band "Solid
Air." Attendees also had the opportunity to win raffle prizes donated
by many local businesses, and to indulge in a BBQ lunch donated and prepared
by JLF Catering. As a non-profit organization, Garbage Reincarnation coordinates
the "Scrapture" event every year to
help educate the public about solid waste issues and to awaken the creative
minds of artists who create their artwork from - and give new life to -
items and materials that would otherwise be destined for the landfill.
